The key to a successful move, after hiring the right removals company, is to stay organised. This is easier said than done, but with the right labelling techniques, you can ensure everything goes where it should.
There are many ways to label your moving boxes. Everyone is different, so choose the method that works best for you or use multiple options.
1. Colour Coding
Get large coloured stickers (circles work well) or duct tape and add a piece to the top and side of each box. It may be simplest to place them on a corner, so you can see from multiple angles which colour is used.
Place a sticker or colour tag in each room of the new house and anyone helping can easily locate the correct space for each box. This requires no reading, so even small children can help with lighter boxes.
2. Waterproof Markers
Using waterproof or permanent markers, you can write as much as you like on a box. It’s usually best to use a bold marker to write the room (or use one of our other methods), then a smaller one in a different colour to include the contents. Whether you include a full list or simply write “kitchen stuff” on it is up to you. The more detailed you get, the better your end result will be.
3. Stickers
Moving stickers may be used and they make it quite simple to label each box with the room it belongs in. You can find rolls of them or designate your own sticker designs, such as a sofa sticker for the living room.
4. Numbers
A numbering system can help you keep track not only of where boxes should go, but what is in them. You can make itinerary sheets with the numbers at the top and designate rooms for specific numbers.
5. Box Type
Another option is to use different types of boxes for each type of belonging. For example, electronics could go in plastic bins and clothing in brown cardboard boxes. Use one of the above methods to label where the boxes should go, but this will help you rapidly identify which ones contain what you need while unpacking.
Labelling will help your move go smoothly, so be sure to do it well. Call Michael Garrett Removals for a free loan of boxes and packing materials with every move.
